This extensively researched and well-written book which lists all known 1400 approx USA Aces from World War 1 to the Vietnam War, gives readers a better understanding of some of the air battles fought by the American aces.
Biographies of the pilots help to give some background to each of the Aces and how they got there as pilots.
The introductory chapter, titled “The Making of a Fighter Ace” gives the reader an insight into what characteristics were needed to become an ace. USA Aces shows that every pilot was focused and determined.

The book is separated into sections covering WW1, WW2 with different sub sections for USAAF, US Navy and US Marines, Korean War and Vietnam War.
Dotted with combat accounts and photos of the pilots, the narrative describes how the pilots managed some of their kills. The readers also learn of weapons, tactics and mission detail. The reader is given first-hand accounts by the pilots on how US aircraft compared when in dog fights with the enemy aircrafts. Some comparisons include P-51 vs. BF-109, Corsair vs. Zero, F-86 vs. MiG-15, F-4 vs. MiG-21, etc.
The book also included a section covering the enemy aces from WW1 to Vietnam- German, Russian and Vietnamese.
